We must change the way we live. Changes that need to be
implemented will affect everyone. That will give us the opportunity to create
meaningful changes that will help everyone in society. For too long we have
been living in a society that puts the needs of big corporations in front of
the needs of people. Success is calculated by profits for the most powerful. We
now have the opportunity to revolutionise the system. Success can be determined
by bringing people out of poverty and increasing the living standards for everyone.
To tackle climate change, everyone needs to work together.
We can’t let profits get in the way of meaningful change. If those currently
in power take the lead, we will not be able to achieve what we want. People need
to take the lead. By working together, we will be able to save the planet.
People from all across the planet need to come together and work side by side. We
need new ideas that will help the planet but also people. If we put the needs of
workers at the forefront to tackle this climate crisis, we will be able to change the
system for the better.
An environmental revolution must start with the green new deal (GND). GND will be able to tackle climate change whilst also tackling inequality by reforming society and the economy. Obviously we need to change how we produce energy. With the GND we can implement an energy source that will be renewable. We will be able to move to a position of zero carbon emission. However, that will mean people will lose their jobs. We will no longer have fossil fuel power plants. Many industries completely reliant on fossil fuels will no longer exist. That’s where the GND is really important. It protects workers by setting out a list of goals. These goals range from guaranteeing jobs to providing high quality health care.
By revolutionising the system, we can prevent the rise of inequality when we combat climate change. By taking power away from the elite, it will allow workers to progress. An increase in jobs and training opportunities will allow people to lead better lives. Since profits are no longer the objective, money would be funnelled back into the system. That cycle of making money and going back to the people will increase living standards and make things better for all.
If we try to tackle climate change under the current system, we are going to see a massive increase in inequality. We will see people losing their jobs. New jobs will be limited. Everything will cost more. Privatisation will expand to everything. We will see big corporations taking over the fight and use it to make money for themselves. Also, we can’t trust these people to take the lead. They’re the ones that have gotten us in this mess. We can’t let these self-centred narcissists risk the lives of our and future generations.
Another big talking point is how can we pay for the GND. According to Ann Pettifor, the GND will pay for itself. She and a group of people originally came up with the GND back in 2007. Now we are at a point where the damage will be irreversible. With the re-introduction of the GND under Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, we still have a chance. So how to pay for it? By borrowing from central banks, as well as investment by savers, the GND will be paid for. Since the deal will create jobs, and the money raised will go back into the system, any borrowing will be easily repaid. Also, by changing the system, those currently avoiding paying their taxes will no longer be able to. Money currently being wasted, like in the military, can be redistributed.

People believe their way of life is under threat: “We will no longer have hamburgers”. Firstly, you need to get your priorities in order if you care more about hamburgers than the lives of future generations. Secondly, peoples lives will change, but for most, the change will be for the better, unless you're part of the 1%. Don’t let these people fool you. They’re spreading all this propaganda so they can keep their private jets. I don’t care about their private jets and you shouldn’t too. Attacking the fight against climate change just means you’re defending the lives of the elite.
We currently live under a system that produces high inequality and high level of poverty. Climate change is the biggest threat to the planet. By combating climate change, it allows us to change the system we live in to one that is much more equal. In essence, the fight against climate change goes hand in hand with producing a system of equality. Those currently in power have no reason to fight climate change. That is why it is down to people like me and you. If we’re to achieve this, we need to get rid of capitalism. We need an environmental revolution.
